Anyone can apply. Preference will be given to those with adjudicating experience.

How can I become an evaluator?

Applications will be available soon.

How much will I be compensated?

$15 per evaluation, which is for listening to up to 15 minutes of music and providing constructive feedback.

How long do I have to turn in my comments?

Two weeks.

What if I go on vacation or am unavailable?

Evaluators are responsible for letting the eFestival manager know when they are not available.

Will the applicant know who I am?

Yes. This lends credibility to your comments.

What if the student isn’t happy with my comments?

MTNA will handle all correspondence from the applicant or the applicant’s teacher. If you receive any communication, forward it to the eFestival manager.

Do I have to belong to MTNA?

No, but membership in MTNA is strongly encouraged. Click here to join.

What if I am retired and no longer teaching, can I still apply to be an evaluator?

Yes.

Will I have to evaluate all ability levels?

Yes, although a great majority of the performances will be beginner to intermediate.

Do I need any specific equipment to view and comment on the videos? You can view the videos on any device that has an internet connection, however we recommend using a computer (with good speakers) for the best experience. We also recommend using either Google Chrome or Firefox as your browser. Here is more information on supported browsers.

Do I need any specific equipment to download and watch the videos?

Videos may be evaluated from any device, including computer, tablet, phone. It would be helpful to have good speakers.

How do I comment on the performance if I don’t have a copy of the score?

Comments should be based on common musical elements that do not require a score, such as expression, balance, dynamics, projection of melody, etc.

What if I have a comment about a specific passage or spot?

Reference the place in the video (i.e. At 1’40”, you handled the complicated rhythm well).

Will my comments be evaluated?

Your comments will be evaluated to ensure they maintain the spirit of the eFestival, which is to provide constructive feedback, offer suggestions for improvement, and validate what the performer is doing well. This is meant to be a positive experience.

Once I apply, how long will it take until I know if I’ve been accepted to be an evaluator?

Up to 4 weeks
